MissingMoney.com is the free search run for the states by their unclaimed property administrators. Sparrow also searches state unclaimed property for free, and then you claim on the state’s own site either way.
The short version: For unclaimed property alone, MissingMoney.com is a great choice: it is free, it is run by the state programs’ own association, and it sends you to the state to claim, which is exactly where Sparrow sends you too. NAUPA says most states take part, and recent reports put it at every state but Hawaii, so Sparrow’s 50-state search adds little here. The bigger reason to use Sparrow is everything else it does: class action claims, bill negotiation calls and subscription cancellations, which MissingMoney does not do.

MissingMoney.com is a good product. Here is what it does better, and what Sparrow does that it does not.
Free. Searching MissingMoney.com costs nothing, and claiming is done on the state’s own unclaimed property site. States such as New York say there is no fee to claim.
One membership at $3 to $7 a month, billed annually, priced by what your claims are worth. It covers class action claims, unclaimed money search, bill negotiation calls, subscription cancellation calls and late delivery refunds. If you do not earn more than you paid, Sparrow refunds the difference.
What MissingMoney.com and Sparrow each do, and what they cost.
Yes. It is a free website managed by NAUPA, the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators, and it links you to official state websites to make your claim.
Nearly. NAUPA says most states participate and does not publish a list. Recent reports put it at 49 states, with Hawaii the one not taking part, so if you have lived in Hawaii, search its own unclaimed property site too. Sparrow’s search covers all 50 states.
For unclaimed property, probably not, as long as every state you have lived in participates. Sparrow and MissingMoney.com both end with you claiming on the state’s site. Sparrow is worth it mainly for class action claims and bill and subscription calls.
Not when you claim directly with the state. New York, for example, says there is no fee or time limit to claim. Neither Sparrow nor MissingMoney.com takes a cut of what the state pays you.
No. Sparrow is a private company and is not affiliated with NAUPA or any state unclaimed property program. The states hold the money and pay it out.
