Sparrow vs Settlemate

Both apps match you to class action settlements and help you claim them. Settlemate leans toward purchase refunds, with receipt scanning, price-drop claims and recall alerts, and also advertises subscription overcharge and travel compensation claims. Sparrow adds unclaimed property and phone calls to lower bills and cancel subscriptions.

The short version: If you want price-drop refunds, product recall alerts or an Android app, Settlemate covers things Sparrow does not. If you want your settlement claims filed for you alongside unclaimed property search and bill negotiation calls, with a guarantee paid back in money rather than extra months, Sparrow is the closer fit. Either way, filing a settlement claim on the administrator’s own site is free.

Where each one is stronger

Settlemate is a good product. Here is what it does better, and what Sparrow does that it does not.

Where Settlemate wins

  • Price-drop refunds and product recall alerts from your email receipts. Sparrow does neither.
  • Android. Sparrow has no Android app.
  • A flat price, $39.99 a year at the time of writing; Sparrow’s price depends on what your claims are worth.
  • Scale on the App Store: 4.8 stars from about 76,000 ratings.

Where Sparrow wins

  • Unclaimed property: Sparrow searches all 50 states for free. Settlemate does not list this.
  • AI phone calls to lower internet, phone and utility bills and to cancel subscriptions, included in membership.
  • Late delivery refunds: Sparrow reads delay notices in your inbox and calls the retailer.
  • A money-back guarantee. Settlemate’s value guarantee gives more free months instead of a cash refund.

What they cost

Settlemate

Free to download, with a subscription: $15.99 a month or $39.99 a year, which its pricing page shows as $3.33 a month. Both plans include receipt scanning, price-drop tracking, settlement alerts and recall notices. Both plans carry a value guarantee once you have paid for 12 months: if your verified value is below what you paid, you can request another 12 months free, not a cash refund. You must keep an inbox or financial account connected for most of the year and ask within 30 days. The App Store also lists paid add-ons for bank connections and a Privacy Protect feature, and Settlemate’s terms allow a success-based fee on some recovery services, disclosed before you opt in.

Sparrow

One membership at $3 to $7 a month, billed annually, priced by what your claims are worth. It covers class action claims, unclaimed money search, bill negotiation calls, subscription cancellation calls and late delivery refunds. If you do not earn more than you paid, Sparrow refunds the difference.
