Sparrow vs BillCutterz

BillCutterz has been negotiating monthly bills since 2009 and takes half of what it saves you. Sparrow makes AI calls to lower bills as part of a flat membership that also files class action claims.

The short version: BillCutterz is a long-running, focused service: its Savings Experts call your providers, and you pay half the savings only if they find any. Nothing is charged up front, which suits anyone who wants zero risk. Sparrow does more for a flat yearly price, including class action claims, unclaimed money search and subscription cancellation, but you pay the membership whether or not a given bill comes down (with a refund if you do not earn more than you paid).

Where each one is stronger

BillCutterz is a good product. Here is what it does better, and what Sparrow does that it does not.

Where BillCutterz wins

  • No savings, no charge. BillCutterz bills you only after it has lowered a bill, while Sparrow’s membership is paid up front.
  • Experience: BillCutterz says it has been negotiating bills since 2009.
  • A Savings Expert calls your providers for you, which may help with complicated accounts.
  • It works a broader mix of bills, including cable, satellite radio, home security, insurance and car payments, though not regulated utilities.

Where Sparrow wins

  • No share of your savings. BillCutterz keeps 50% of what it saves; Sparrow’s price is flat.
  • Class action settlements: Sparrow finds the ones you qualify for and files the claims.
  • Free unclaimed property search across all 50 states.
  • An iPhone app, plus subscription cancellation and late delivery refund calls.

What they cost

BillCutterz

Signing up and submitting bills is free. If BillCutterz lowers a bill, it emails an invoice for half of the savings, due within 15 days; you can pay monthly through Stripe or pay the first invoice in full, on time, for an extra 10% off (recurring savings only). If it saves you nothing, there is no charge.

Sparrow

One membership at $3 to $7 a month, billed annually, priced by what your claims are worth. It covers class action claims, unclaimed money search, bill negotiation calls, subscription cancellation calls and late delivery refunds. If you do not earn more than you paid, Sparrow refunds the difference.

Which one should you pick?

  • You also want class action payouts and unclaimed money.
  • You want an app that also cancels subscriptions and chases late deliveries.

Sparrow vs BillCutterz questions

What BillCutterz and Sparrow each do, and what they cost.

BillCutterz splits the savings with you 50/50. Its own example: if it saves you $20 a month for 12 months, you keep $10 and it gets $10 each month. Paying the first invoice in full takes 10% off the fee. Late payments can add a $5 monthly late fee.

It is a long-running service: BillCutterz says it has helped people lower monthly bills since 2009. As with any negotiator, read its terms first. You agree to pay 50% of the savings it achieves, and you stay responsible for fees on savings already secured if you cancel.

Sometimes. BillCutterz costs nothing if it fails and half the savings if it succeeds. Sparrow is a flat $3 to $7 a month, billed annually, and refunds the difference if you do not earn more than you paid. The bigger your savings, the more a flat price tends to favor Sparrow; for one small saving BillCutterz may cost less.

Not that its site mentions. You sign up and log in on the BillCutterz website. Sparrow has an iPhone app and a web version.

Yes, for free. Call your provider, ask for the retention or loyalty team, and mention a competitor’s price. A negotiator saves you the time, not access to anything you could not ask for yourself.
